- Sub: Re: Abbs Plc in McAp
-
- Curtis,
- Whilst I am with you in many respects, I am afraid that I must take issue over
- the matter of saving the odd character by abbreviating 'text' to 'txt', for
- example.
- Every character saved (especially near the beginning of the word) means another
- character visible in debug/MacsBug/etc., where every extra character can be a
- great help!
- However, I too am perpetually frustrated with 'DisposeXXX' and 'DisposYYY'
- confusions. Could we not make the rules:
- 1. Make ALL abbreviations consistent - so either go for 'Text' OR 'Txt'
- throughout, and never mix them.
- 2. Make as many abbreviations as possible self-evident and natural - e.g.
- 'txt' but not 'tex' or 'tt'.
- 3. Abbreviations are preferred where they save more than two characters in a
- word.
- Perhaps this should be a special interest within both MacApp and Human
- Interface - Programmer Interface!!
- Regards,
- Howard.
